Campers with horse

Face it. Camp is just better with horses.

Horseback riding day camps are offered during the summer months and over the winter school break. Campers ages 6 and up spend their day learning the basics of horseback riding and horse care. They are taught about safety around the horses, grooming, tacking, after-riding care, equine terminology, basic feeding and much more. Each child receives a riding lesson daily and sometimes can be found enjoying an afternoon ride before the end of the day, weather dependent.

Often, the children are treated to guest speakers such as the veterinarian or blacksmith. When not with the horses, the balance of their day is PURE KID FUN! Games, arts and crafts, swimming, contests and much more make up the balance of their time. Safety: There are at least two riding instructors present during riding lessons and adult supervision is constantly provided. Camp is held rain or shine and is limited to 15 children per day. Water and Gatorade are provided for the children; lunches are not provided.

VPF Advanced Camp

VPF Advanced Camp is for riders ages 9 years & up, with at least two years of riding experience. This intensified experience is designed for riders who wish to further their horsemanship, equine care and show ring skills. Riders spend lots of time in the barn with their mounts, learning many of the ins and outs of show horse care, nutrition, show grooming, basic equitation patterns and more.

Field trips in the past have included Waller Equine Hospital, Ferguson Ranch, and Steinhauser's Feed Supply. The week ends with a trip to the PCS Saturday Night Series Horse Show in Seguin, where the riders put their newly learned skills to use in the competitive arena. Check the VPF Happenings page and the VPF Calendar for Advanced Camp dates.
